Qualcomm: First Windows 10 ARM PC coming in the fourth quarter

The CEO of Qualcomm has made it clear that Snapdragon PCs will be coming out in the fourth quarter of the year and we could be seeing them hit the market before the year ends.

When the devices do start arriving, it will be the first time we see laptops running Windows 10 that aren't powered by either Intel or AMD processors.

Details remain thin on the ground as to how Qualcomm and Microsoft will achieve this.

Chip maker Qualcomm has confirmed that "mobile" Windows 10 PCs built around its Snapdragon 835 system-on-a-chip (SoC) - which powers the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone in the United States - will be released between October and December.

North Korea Displays Apparently New Missiles amid Rising Tensions across the Region
Vice President Mike Pence travels to South Korea on Sunday on a long-planned 10-day trip to Asia. "We are sending an armada". In recent days, North Koreans have been seen practicing choreographed dance routines in brightly colored national dress.

In addition to laptops and tablets with these chips and Windows 10 ARM, it is also very likely that on those dates we see a mobile with Windows 10 complete. The main selling point here is efficiency - a PC powered by an ARM SoC could run for much longer, and the on-die support for cellular modems means it'll be easier for OEMs to include mobile data. That's because Microsoft is building an emulator directly into the OS capable of handling Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and other desktop staples. But we do know that the first set of Windows 10 PCs powered by the Snapdragon 835. It will have other wireless connectivity features like Bluetooth 5 and possibly Wi-Gig, which are integrated into the Snapdragon 835 chipset. Moreover, the company wants to assert itself as an all-encompassing chipmaker that can take on Intel in PCs and servers.

The future integration of Snapdragon 835 was announced four months ago at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where its abilities to improve battery life and the overall power of a device, and run x86 Win32 apps and games were highlighted.

Apple has claimed that Qualcomm used its dominant market position market to overcharge on chip licensing fees.

"We have an opportunity to disrupt the existing suppliers of the PC and the datacentre", he said. Apple is Qualcomm's major customer, so the uncertainty around licensing fees is making it hard for the chipmaker to make revenue projections.
