Board OKs conditional lease for Raiders stadium in Las Vegas

Board OKs conditional lease for Raiders stadium in Las Vegas

After looking like the Oakland Raiders relocation to Las Vegas may get pushed back until 2021, the Raiders have gotten their lease agreement approved unanimously by the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board.

The next opportunity to present a lease would not be until the following owners meeting in October.

The total cost of the stadium is expected to be $1.9 billion. The team also has to figure out parking options for the stadium that will be built near the Las Vegas Strip, west of the Mandalay Bay casino-resort. They were on a 32-month timeline for opening in 2019.

National Football League team owners approved the Raiders move from California to Las Vegas by a 31-1 vote in March, although they wanted to see a lease agreement, stadium design plans and government approvals for construction near the Mandalay Bay resort. A special meeting is set to vote on the lease agreement for the stadium. Raiders owner Mark Davis does not want to move to Las Vegas until the dome is complete.

Gaming was also listed as being a prohibited use for the stadium, per the report, "going so far as to list specific card games that can not be conducted at the facility".

The Raiders plan to stay in Oakland for the 2017 and '18 seasons, under two existing one-year leases on the Coliseum.

Raiders President Marc Badain said the design for the stadium has been finalized, but renderings will not be unveiled immediately.
