Evangelos Marinakis completes Nottingham Forest takeover and denies match-fixing allegations

Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis who is accused of match-fixing in Greece where he is the owner of giants Olympiakos bought two-time European Cup winners Nottingham Forest on Thursday.

Despite the accusations Marinakis has passed the English Football League's owner's and directors' test bringing the curtain down on the troubled five year tenure of Kuwiati Fawaz Al Hasawi, but UEFA is still monitoring the Greek case and awaiting the outcome.

Marinakis denied the accusations in an interview with the BBC, saying they were the invention of people who are "jealous" of his success with Olympiakos, Greece's nearly perennial champion over the last 20 years. All of it has been dismissed and we have been clear from all of this.

Marinkakis is joined on the NFFI board by fellow Greek businessman Sokratis Kominakis, also a former chairman of Olympiacos. "Of course I can not stop our opponents talking or bad-mouthing".

His takeover of Forest, who narrowly avoided relegation to League One by defeating Ipswich Town on the final day of the season, brings to an end more than a year of negotiations that also saw an attempted purchase of the club by an American consortium led by the businessman John Jay Moores.

Aaron Hernandez murder conviction thrown out by judge
Prosecutors had argued that Hernandez forfeited his right to appeal when he made a "calculated" decision to take his own life. According to ABC News , a judge in MA granted the request to erase the former New England Patriots star's murder conviction.

"We believe that in Mark Warburton and his team the right people were selected to take the club forward on the pitch by delivering the passing game that the club's supporters love, and for which Nottingham Forest are known and remembered throughout the world", he said. They were relegated from the Premier League in 1999 and have struggled under various owners to return.

"What we have achieved in national and European football with Olympiacos FC, we want to duplicate with Nottingham Forest", Marinakis said.

"Furthermore the supporters of Nottingham have been exhausted all these years, they didn't have such good times".

"It has been a very hard time to be a Forest fan, there were a number of fans who had become very disenfranchised and ostracised but we have now seen the first steps into restoring some pride in the football club".
