Preparation key to United's Europa victory, says Mourinho

"These things are awful all over the world, in London and in Paris". We want peace in the world and respect.

Manchester United dedicated their UEFA Europa League win on Wednesday night to the 22 victims who were killed in the bombing of the Manchester Evening News Arena on Monday.

If United had finished inside the top four and won the Europa League, then England's allocation would remain at four clubs.

Manchester United celebrate their 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Europa League final.

"As terrorists you have failed", read one message. "We. Are. Not. We wouldn't think twice". Domestically Chelsea and Manchester City will be the ones to catch.

United's players flew to Sweden in a somber mood and with heavy hearts after the tragedy at an Ariana Grande concert Monday, and they were determined to produce a display that served as a tribute to the victims and their families.

That they succeeded in doing so was a testament to their strength of character.

One flag, hung outside a bar in the city center filled with United fans, displayed the words: "United against terrorism". We had to focus because it was a very important game and we won for them and for the country. That's what we've done.

The victory means Mourinho has made history by becoming the only manager to win the Europa League and the Champions League on two separates occasion each.

United are bidding to win the only major trophy they have never won, while Ajax are chasing a first continental title since the 1995 Champions League.

Mourinho has now won 12 out of 14 cup finals in his career, including all four European finals he has been involved in, and the team produced the type of clinical display with which his sides have always been renowned.

"We wanted to get back into the Champions League, but not by finishing third or fourth in the Premier League".

Peter Bosz's effervescent team caused United some uncomfortable moments, but without ever threatening to pull off an upset.

He was said to be one of the players most visibly affected by Monday, and it was hard for some in the arena not to be affected by the emotion; by the context of it all.

Mourinho averages a trophy every 33.2 games - Say what you will about Mourinho and his disappointments in the last couple of years, he's still continued to deliver silverware regardless.

"I didn't see the Ajax team I'm used to, pressing and competing for first balls".

"It's not too overbearing, but you feel secure as well", United fan Pete Temple, a 31-year-old telecommunications worker from Derry, Northern Ireland, told The Associated Press outside the stadium.

Fellaini laid the ball off to Pogba at the edge of the area, and the France midfielder allowed it to run across him before sending in a low left-footed shot that struck Davinson Sanchez's outstretched leg, looped up, and span into the net past wrong-footed goalkeeper Andre Onana.

£89.3 million signing Paul Pogba scored the first goal.
