Grenfell Tower: 79 presumed dead in London fire

Opposition politicians also say the government ignored recommendations from a 2013 review after another London fire killed six people.

However, five people who were originally reported as missing have since been found safe and well.

On Sunday, investigators released photographs and video footage showing what's left of the inside the 24-storey apartment building that was engulfed in flames in the early morning hours of last Wednesday.

Labour Party lawmaker David Lammy demanded that the government and police immediately seize all documents relating to Grenfell's renovation to prevent the destruction of evidence that could show criminal wrongdoing.

"His family is being supported by liaison officers from the Metropolitan Police", Cundy said.

The government has promised a full public inquiry, but that has done little to a sense of frustration and anger among residents and neighbours who demand answers for how the blaze spread so quickly and trapped so numerous tower's roughly 600 residents.

Cundy promised an "exhaustive" criminal investigation into the fire that would also look at a major refurbishment of the building completed a year ago.

They say their complaints were ignored - and fear it was because the tower was full of poor people in a hugely wealthy neighborhood.

Attorney: Trump not under investigation
"You've now said he is being investigated after saying" he isn't, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said. Whether Trump himself is under investigation at this stage also is still unclear.

Two government ministers - Treasury chief Philip Hammond and Trade Minister Greg Hands - said Sunday the cladding used on the building's exterior seems to be banned by British regulations.

Mr Cundy added: "My commitment to families is that as soon as we can, we will locate and recover their loved ones".

A drunk man has been hailed as an unlikely hero in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy after he discovered the blaze by pressing the wrong elevator button.

Asked if they would be looking specifically into manslaughter charges, he said: "Yes".

Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May has announced a fund of £5 million ($6.4 million) to help those affected by the blaze.

At least 79 people are dead or missing and presumed dead following the fire that tore through the 24-story Grenfell Tower in London, police have said.

Commander Stuart Cundy said he expects the ongoing search and recovery effort to last "many, many weeks", as authorities work to identify the victims.

May met with the victims' families along with community leaders at Downing Street on Saturday, as protests took place in London.

The U.K. was already reeling from the bombing and mass stabbing, respectively, before this week's building inferno. For police, fire and emergency crews inside the tower, "it is incredibly emotional working in there", Cundy said.
