Qatar demands 'blockade' be lifted for talks

Qatar's foreign minister is scheduled to fly to Washington DC next week to discuss the economic effects of the boycott and its impact on the global fight against terrorism.

On June 5, five Arab countries - Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Yemen - abruptly cut diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism without presenting any evidence of their claims.

The group, which raises more than $140 million a year from Christian donors in the United States for Israelis in need, launched an ad campaign against Qatar because of its support for Hamas and its harboring of Hamas leaders.

Turkey is one of Qatar's strongest allies.

Qatar denies the allegations, but the situation has ended in a diplomatic stalemate.

It is still possible to sail to Qatar from countries which are not part of the boycott, so the company hopes to be able to sail through Salalah in Oman.

But by applying pressure on gas-rich Qatar through sanctions, "we have a golden opportunity to break this support", he said.

Turkey has said it would deploy 3,000 ground troops at the base, primarily to serve as a venue for joint exercises. In Fatwa number 6250, he said: "The most righteous Islamic groups and the closest to the teachings of the Prophet are Ahl Al-Sunnah, including Ahl Al-Hadith, Jamaat Ansar Al-Sunna and the Muslim Brotherhood".

The majority of flights from Qatar to North Africa and southern Europe used to pass through Saudi and Egyptian airspace but are now forced to pass through Iranian airspace first then onto Iraq, Jordan and North Africa.
