Roger Federer eased closer to a ninth title at the Halle grass court tournament on Friday when he demolished defending champion Florian Mayer of Germany 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

The Gerry Weber Open 2017 final between Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev is set to start at 1:00pm local time, 4:30pm IST and 12.00pm BST.

Federer opted to miss the clay-court season and lost his comeback match in Stuttgart to Tommy Haas, but ends his week in Halle having not dropped a set.

Zverev, who beat the Swiss in last year's semi-final, had a chance to break at the start of the second set. It was total domination by Federer, who returned to action a few weeks back after taking a two-month hiatus from the sport. "I'll prepare myself the best I can, but he's definitely the favourite in that match". I played great today. "It could be somewhat similar to how I played today".

Zverev booked his second successive final spot when he beat Frenchman Gasquet 4-6 6-4 6-3.

Alexander Zverev failed to stop Federer's momentum as the Swiss sewed up the match on his first match ball to reap his 92nd career title. After winning the Australian Open earlier this year, he has continued to amaze the tennis world with his play.

Petya cyber attack: Ransomware virus hits computer servers across globe
The White House National Security Council said in a statement there was now no risk to public safety. The ransomware demands a $300 bitcoin payment to retrieve encrypted files and hard drives.

Federer required just 53 minutes as he destroyed Zverev and will be much fancied to continue his superb form in 2017 when he arrives in Wimbledon as the number three seed.

Prior to Sunday's final, Zverev hailed "Roger (Federer) the best player of all time on grass" and it seemed like the youngster was overawed by the moment, standing face-to-face with his childhood idol. The 35-year-old now boasts an astonishing 92 ATP World Tour titles.

He converted his first match point to reach an 11th Halle final.

Federer surprisingly donated serve once in each set, but a second break of his own allowed him to take the first and he was extended to a tiebreaker in the second.

He also beat Federer in the semi-final of this very tournament just previous year.
