Work at Indian container port stalled by malware

Operations at one of the three terminals of the nation's largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) were impacted on Tuesday night as a fallout of the global ransomware attack, which crippled some central banks and many large corporations in Europe. The "Not Petya" attack had hit 2,000 users in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, France, Italy, the UK, Germany and the US, Kaspersky said.

While APM Terminals has not commented on the impact on India, officials said that work at GTI, which can handle 1.8 million standard container units, is at a literal standstill.

The terminal is operated by Danish shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk.

Fearing some clogging up of cargo, additional parking space is being made available, the official said, promising to help in any possible manner.

The Health Care Hoax Has Been Exposed, Senator McConnell
McConnell had originally planned to call a vote by the end of this week. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she would vote no.

The Hague-based APM Terminals also operates the Pipavav terminal in Gujarat. But he said "all indications would point to" it being the same virus.

The current attacks came weeks after malware named Wanna Cry Ransomware affected systems across the globe, taking down computer systems, locking up critical data and demanding bitcoins as ransom for its release. "We are continuing to investigate and will take appropriate action to protect customers", a spokesman for the company said, adding that Microsoft antivirus software detects and removes it.

The "Petya" ransomware has caused disruption at firms across the US and Europe including advertising giant WPP, French construction materials company Saint-Gobain and Russian steel and oil firms Evraz and Rosneft.

According to reports, operations of one private terminal operator at JNPT disrupted as a effect of worldwide disruption caused by a cyber attack.
