Sounds Like Nintendo Won't Make PC Games Anytime Soon

"So that was why we kind of wanted to get rid of the lives idea".

From the familiar stopping with a poker face before jumping up and falling down to Mario's eyes turning "XX" and then these two frustrating words "GAME OVER".

Nintendo is finally getting away from the archaic mechanic with Super Mario Odyssey, which is welcome news.

Campbell buying organic soup company Pacific Foods for $700M
The company will become part of Campbell's Americas Simple Meals and Beverages division, led by President Mark Alexander. Tulatin-based Pacific Foods, founded in 1987, posted about $218 million in net sales over the 12 months ended May 31.

"No matter how many times he fails, there is no Game Over", the tweet says, as translated by Polygon. While Mario can die in myriad ways throughout the game, he'll never make the player sit through one of the iconic end screens. In fact, some games like New Super Mario Bros Wii and its Wii U sequel just keep a running tally of the number of times you've hit the game over screen, with no other real drawbacks of note. Apparently, the answer is yes, as Nintendo confirmed there won't be a Game Over state in the hotly anticipated Switch game Super Mario Odyssey.

According to the official Twitter account, when the protagonist of Super Mario Odyssey would traditionally lose a life the player will instead lose ten of the coins they've collected in-game; if the player's coin count dips below ten, they'll still be able to continue playing without seeing a "Game Over" screen.

Between Steam's reported record growth, Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere program, Sony offering PS3 & PS4 games to PC gamers via PlayStation Now, and companies like Sega bringing more and more games to PC, its starting to seem that those claims about the death of PC gaming that were making the rounds a few years back may have been highly exaggerated. That means you should still avoid dying, but you won't have to worry about losing game progress for lack of available 1-up mushrooms anymore.
