Facebook accelerates video offer with Watch for TV shows

Getting people to see Facebook as a video service is like Walmart trying to sell high fashion, or McDonald's peddling high-end food, said Joel Espelien, senior analyst with The Diffusion Group, a video research firm. The app will be initially available on app stores on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Samsung Smart TV and will be rolled out to other platforms gradually.

That's what Facebook is calling the new section, which will only be made available to users in the USA for now, but is likely to expand outwards in the future.

All the while the Watchlist will be used to ensure users don't miss shows they like - with the latest episodes appearing in the Watchlist once a show has been "followed".

The Watch tab puts a lot of sections around videos, where you'll find categories like "Most Talked About", "What's Making People Laugh", and "What Friends Are Watching".

That's why Facebook launched its Video tab in the US, offering a predictable place for people to find and watch videos on the platform.

Reuters reported in May that Facebook had signed deals with millennial-focused news and entertainment creators Vox Media, BuzzFeed, ATTN, Group Nine Media and others to produce shows, both scripted and unscripted. Similarly, the ability to make shows will also be available to a small amount of U.S. users for now.

Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad also wished Ansari said he was grateful to the "best" Chairman the Rajya Sabha has had. Speaking about the role of the Rajya Sabha, he said it is known as "a sobering House, known for the quality of debate".

Shows are made up of episodes - live or recorded - and follow a theme or storyline. However, the company is aiming to make it available to additional USA viewers "in the coming weeks". Per reports, some of the shows that will be available on Watch include Tastemade's Kitchen Little (cooking show for kids), National Geographic's "Safari Live", NASA's "Science @ NASA", Gabby Bernstein (motivational series), A&E's "Bae or Bail" (reality show).

By opening Watch, one will be able to quickly scroll through a listing of shows and they just need to choose the one that interest them.

Many tech giants are eyeing the lucrative market of original programming.

Facebook has plenty of expectations at launch. "Our goal is for Watch to be a platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience, build a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work".

In due course, Facebook says it will rollout 'Shows, ' the platform for episodic content, to all content creators. Watch is basically the redesigned Video tab which is already available to United States users.
