Elon Musk's AI Just "Wiped Out" World's Best DOTA 2 Players

Elon Musk's AI Just

Elon Musk may be terrified of artificial intelligence (AI) and spreading a message of AI-led doom, but that hasn't stopped him from funding companies that are developing advanced AI.

Dota 2 is normally played as a 5-vs-5 team game, so limiting the bot to a 1-on-1 match greatly reduces the complexity.

In the first game, with both players using Shadow Fiend, Dendi was flustered by the dominance of the OpenAI bot, with the AI scoring two kills to win compared to one kill by Dendi.

It's easy enough to say "hey, we've created an AI which can beat the world's top Dota 2 pros", though, so in addition to a teaser video showing the AI caning Dota 2 elite players, TI7 also prepared a live match between the bot and pro gamer Danylo "Dendi" Ishutin.

"We've coached it to learn just from playing against itself", said OpenAI researcher Jakub Pachocki.

An important season lies ahead for Mauricio Pochettino
There are still three weeks left in this summer transfer window; that's plenty of time to bring some players in. Nothing has changed in my vision or perception of him.

Then, Brockman said, it was time to put the bot to the test at The International, which is Dota 2's world championship. It was flanked by burly bodyguards wearing all black, who proceeded to hook up the bot to a computer. And rather than attempt a third round, Dendi surrendered.

Dendi's thoughts upon the OpenAI bot were interesting, and he noted that the AI "feels a little bit like a human, but at the same time it's something else". From what Brockman said, it seems that the company is hoping that the bot keeps on learning as quickly as it now is, and improve upon its cooperative techniques to take on a full team of professionals before long.

"I am sure it is possible to beat it".

Open AI's goal is to build safe artificial general intelligence. The fear of the AI system evolving into Skynet has since been debunked, but combined with the DOTA 2-playing OpenAI bot, we can't help but wonder what the future holds for the technology.
