Haryana BJP chief's son sent to judicial custody in Chandigarh stalking case

A CCTV camera footage showing the two accused, Vikas Barala and his accomplice Ashish, buying liquor from an outlet in Sector 9 Chandigarh has surfaced in the high profile Varnika Kundu stalking and attempted abduction case. Surya Prakash Garg, lawyer of the accused, said that his client has alleged that they are making him scapegoat in this case.

Barala and his friend and co-accused Ashish Kumar were earlier sent to judicial cutsody for two days. It remains to be seen whether or not the police seeks to extend their police remand for another few days. Regarding the incident, there was a huge outrage on the streets and in Parliament.

August 10 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday urged the Opposition not to politicise the Chandigarh stalking case and asserted that the law will take its course in the case. He told the court that "neither any kidnapping nor any molestation or any other offence was committed", adding that the case was "just a media trial".

Anti-migrant ship Defend Europe rescued in Mediterranean after issuing distress call
An English-language version of the status provided to BuzzFeed News by Sea-Eye said the C-Star had been "in distress at sea". Defend Europe then posted its own statement, claiming that reports of trouble were overblown.

After the incident, Kundu filed a complaint and the duo was booked on charges of stalking and attempt to kidnap.

After spending two day in police custody, the duo were again produced in court. They were, however, granted bail the same day.

The development comes after the police earlier released a video footage showing the one of the accused (Ashish) buying alcohol before chasing Varnika Kundu's auto on the night of August 4. He further stated that, Varnika "is like my daughter" and assured action against his son.
