Mourinho confirms talks over Zlatan return

Jose Mourinho has told his players they must all take responsibility for solving Manchester United's goalscoring problem, while adding that a Premier League title was a more realistic target this season.

Ibrahimovic turned out 46 times for the Old Trafford side last season before sustaining a cruciate knee ligament injury against Anderlecht in the quarter-final of the Europa League - an issue that prematurely ended his campaign.

"I just think that he was very clear by showing that what he did a year ago was not enough for him".

Speaking ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against West Ham, Mourinho revealed the club are now holding talks with the Swede about the possibility of him joining the squad for the second part of the season if he can prove his fitness.

"So we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him staying with us for the second part of the season".

"He's injured. He needs time to recover", United manager Jose Mourinho said on Friday. We are not desperate to have it (a deal) done or not.

Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic have so far arrived this summer, but Mourinho always meant to make four acquisitions. "I'm not a hard person to work with, in spite of it looking different sometimes".

I understand by doing 75 percent of what I asked, the club did very well.

"So I don't think I am in a position of crying, of moaning, of protesting".

"I am happy with the effort the club did and that the club managed to do 75 percent of the work before the Premier League starts and until August 31".

"I will just go with everything I have to try to win every match we play".

"Between the players we have lost and the players we have got, I think we are in a similar situation but with more experience of working together and a much better pre-season". "Of course, for the next three, four years, Manchester City is going to buy one, two players (each window)".

We got a central defender who can play in many other positions, which is important.

The signings of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica, midfielder Nemanja Matic from Chelsea and striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton have also lifted the mood. "We were focused on the striker scoring goals and when it didn't happen we were in trouble".

One of the most valuable free agents on the market, Ibrahimovic quickly became the subject of interest for several clubs and was most recently linked with a potential return to former side AC Milan.
