Pakistan violates ceasefire in Poonch, 45-year-old woman killed

One woman was killed in Pakistan shelling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Medhar sector early on Saturday.

According to defence ministry sources, the Pakistani troops resorted to heavy unprovoked firing at about 5 am. He said "that is the kind of fierce retaliation we are giving on the borders".

The exchange of fire continued till 7:30 AM. He is survived by his wife Omavati Devi, a son and a daughter.

"He was a fearless and honest soldier".

His death took the number of jawans killed in the sector in the last five days to two.

Ruqia (40), a resident of Dharana, was killed on the spot after a mortar shell fired by Pakistani rangers from across the border exploded inside her house, officials said.
