Mo Farah & Usain Bolt prepare for final events

Mo Farah & Usain Bolt prepare for final events

A distraught Bolt was consoled on the ground by his sprint team-mates and he limped out of the stadium, not the way he probably envisaged his send-off going.

"I am not too happy about it because an athlete who has been banned twice has just won one of our best medals".

Farah has won Great Britain's sole gold medal of the championships - the 10,000m on the first day - and is aiming to mount a double defence of the titles he won in 2013 and 2015.

But Bolt, who had to settle for the bronze, will be confident of anchoring his 4x100mRelay team to victory and bank the 12th World Championship gold of his career.

"No regrets", Bolt insisted, long after a result that stunned a pumped-up crowd into near silence.

Running the last leg, Bolt eased home, looking over his shoulder, as Jamaica won the second of the two semi-final heats in 37.95 seconds, ahead of France (38.03) and China (38.20).

"My team did a great job", said Gatlin, the oldest of the squad at 35.

But the irrepressible prevalence of PEDs (in all sports) is such that I think they should be legalized.

Christian Coleman took silver in the 100 ahead of Bolt and it gave the USA team an added boost.

Sally Pearson is back and getting another gold medal at the Olympic Stadium in London.

New UN sanctions trigger sharp warning from North Korea
Joint discussions between six nations - China, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Russia and the USA - collapsed in 2009. The latest United Nations resolution bans North Korean exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood.

Bolt stepped out on the track for the second heat, and the Jamaicans needed him.

Jamaica's team consisted of Tyquendo Tracey, Julian Forte, Michael Campbell and Usain Bolt. I felt certain the fix was in when DeGrasse (Bolt's Puma teammate) withdrew at the last minute, presumably ceding the stage to the elder sportsman.

"They came out here and did the job we wanted them to do, and that's to get us to the finals".

Maybe so, but when he asks the crowd where Bolt is, in between booing, they'll say 'he's behind you.' Two places behind you. Bolt's earnings for this year updated as of June: $34.2 million.

In the second heat, Germany beat two-time defending champion Jamaica to qualify along with Brazil.

Switzerland (42.50) qualified with the fourth fastest time overall while Netherlands (42.64), Brazil (42.77) and Trinidad and Tobago (42.91) completed the final round line-up.

It was the first time Bolt had been beaten at a major championships since the 4x100m relay at the 2007 worlds in Osaka.

For a decade, he has been this intimidating figure on the track for his opponents - winning all the Olympic or world championship finals he was in, except one hiccup when he false started in the 100m final in Daegu world championships in 2011. His 9.85-second run was the third fastest in Olympic history.

At least Usain Bolt could cushion the blow of British mediocrity, the hype of his last 100 metres race on Saturday night reaching levels of Steve Cram suggesting that Farah is a 'one-man world super power'.
