Google is testing a data-friendly version of its Search app

With increasing number of apps, users end up using a whole lot of data than what they originally intend to.

In that respect it's similar to the YouTube Lite app that Google launched in India past year, and other "lite" apps from Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and others. Now Google is rolling out a new feature in both Maps and mobile search, which lets you submit your own questions for people to answer. It will consume less data and take up limited storage on the device.

PM Modi's Independence day speech a reflection of New India: Rajnath Singh
"Mr Modi is lessoning the duration of his speeches as now he has nothing to talk about", he said in Bengaluru. This is the land of Gandhi and Buddha.

In addition to search, the app also allows you to quickly access information including news, weather, and translation. I've not found it on any local listings as yet, but it shouldn't be too long. "The functionality of 'Search Lite" app will be the same as Google's current cross-platform, 'Search.' The app is now only available on Play Store in Indonesia, reported Android Police. Users will now be able to search for content by simply typing or speaking, thanks to the translate feature.

The Search Lite is created to address those concerns without gimping the experience that Google is known for. With over a billion population, the search engine giant is interested in bringing those people on board and make them use their services, a potentially untapped market. This question is then routed to the business owner or someone (a Local Guide) who can answer your questions. The app is available only in Indonesia at the moment, but could also be launched in other regions plagued by poor connectivity.
