Wilshere angry with The Sun after red card for U23s

Just after the hour mark, Wilshere was caught by a clumsy, late challenge by City midfielder Matthew Smith. Tyreke Wilson was also sent off for his role in the fiesty scrap that unfolded.

Some seven players were then involved in a tussle in the centre circle before Wilshere - who did not try to appeal his red card - and Wilson were sent to the showers.

The trouble did not stop there though, with Wilshere and Wilson making their way down the tunnel before becoming embroiled in a second confrontation that required the pair to be separated by those close to them.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he "planned" for Wilshere to stay at the club this season, despite him being linked with another loan move away.

Having yet to play for the first team this season as he continues his recovery from a leg fracture which he suffered back in April during his loan stint with Bournemouth, the 25-year-old started the game and assisted a goal as the Gunners raced to a 4-1 lead.

Chelsea boss Conte laughs off Costa criticism
Atletico are under a transfer ban until January, but Costa has made it clear that he wants Diego Simeone's side to be his next destination.

Despite being shown a straight red card, Wilshere will not serve a senior ban, with the regulations stating that he will miss three non-senior matches as punishment for the indiscretion.

"Evening Sam.Intrigued to hear more about how you think this is a career low for me?" Wilshere wrote on Twitter.

Wilshere helped Bournemouth secure a third consecutive season in the Premier League - the first time that they have achieved this feat in their history.

Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal offered Wilshere to AC Milan for this season, but the Serie A giants turned the 25-year-old down due to concerns over his injury record.
