Ayatollah Khamenei Warns Against "Any Wrong Move" on Nuclear Deal

Ayatollah Khamenei Warns Against

Iran would react strongly to any "wrong move" by the United States on Tehran's nuclear deal, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, after president Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the "spirit" of the agreement. According to Khamenei, Iran will respond to "every wrong step by the United States regarding the nuclear deal".

"They (US administration) have shown wickedness and malicious behaviour with regard to the JCPOA (nuclear deal) and the US regime is truly a vicious devil", Khamenei said, referring to the chain of sanctions by the Donald Trump administration against Iran, Xinhua news agency reported.

During the negotiations with the world powers in 2013-2015, "the country's officials reached the conclusion that they should negotiate and ignore some of their rights so that sanctions would be removed", Khamenei said.

The Leader of the Revolution went on to say: Today we witness, despite all the contracts, deals, and multiple talks regarding the JCPOA, the attitudes of the United States towards the negotiations and their outcomes are totally oppressive, hounding, and cruel.

On September 5, USA ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley laid out a case for President Donald Trump to step back from the nuclear deal, arguing that Iran's technical compliance alone isn't enough for the U.S.to stick with the pact.

President Hassan Rohani left on September 17 for the UN General Assembly in NY, where he is expected to hold talks on the nuclear deal.

Trump is expected to recertify Iran's compliance to the deal before October 15 as required by the USA law.

"Iran also expects the European Union to send this strong message to the USA (administration)", Rouhani said during a meeting with the visiting president of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium, Siegfried Baracke.

"It is not an agreement between two countries - it is a commitment undertaken by the entire worldwide community on one side and Iran on the other, supported by a resolution of the UN Security Council", she said.
