Windies humble England in T20

Chester-le-Street: Carlos Brathwaite wants to prove his World Twenty20-winning heroics were no fluke when he leads West Indies against England in a repeat of the 2016 final at Chester-le-Street on Saturday.

Captain Carlos Brathwaite (3-20) and Kesrick Williams (3-35) then undermined England's comeback.

They were separated, however, following a calamitous piece of running between the wickets - Gayle was first guilty of ball watching after chopping to point, then, after some hesitation, ambled for a single, refusing to be hurried by Jason Roy's throw to Liam Plunkett or dive to save himself.

The 29-year-old Bajan did not feature in West Indies' recent 2-1 Test series loss in England and has not been selected for the five ODIs that follow Saturday's lone Twenty20 of the tour at Durham's Riverside headquarters - Stokes's home ground.

In response Alex Hales struck a blistering 43 as England started strongly but the hosts fell to 68-4 and were all out for 155. "He has eased the pressure off me so we can dictate the way we go about it - but he won't stop!"

And four balls later, West Indies' 106 for two had become 115 for three with Marlon Samuels, cramped for room, out for just 10 when he mistimed a drive to Root, at mid-on for the right-handed batsman.

"It's the batting certainly", Morgan said.

Christian Atsu was on target for Newcastle United in their 2-1 victory against Stoke City in the English Premier League at the St.

Gayle hit three fours and four sixes in his typically aggressive knock before West Indies stumbled and lost nine wickets for 104 runs.

In the one-off clash at Chester-le-Street, the Windies' opening pair of Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle got off to a flying start before Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid took three wickets apiece to ensure the visitors could only muster 176-9.

But July saw him return to West Indies duty in a Twenty20 global against India in Kingston.

That match saw fellow left-hander Lewis manage the impressive feat of out-hitting Gayle on his way to a stunning and unbeaten 125.

Three spectators suffered injuries, and a further 180 had to be moved to another part of the ground, after a small part of a stand caved in during the T20 cricket match between England and the West Indies.

But it nearly did not happen after Walton's injury, with Brathwaite telling a post-match news conference: "I had a chat with a few of the boys in a huddle while Chadwick was getting treatment and a lot of them said it was unsafe".
